Supine Horizons

Supine Horizons was a site-specific immersive installation located in Germantown. In this space, visitors could partake in a free rest session where they experienced the sensations of flotation therapy amidst relaxing, ambient soundscapes, and soothing visuals projected onto walls and furniture. I used various 3D software, modular synthesizers, and nontraditional methods using data from biorhythms in plants to create audio and visual compositions that played continuously throughout the installation.

Curated by Nicole Pollard and Philadelphia Contemporary, Supine Horizons seeks to dismantle the idea that rest is solely a luxury or a privilege and aims to subvert capitalist ideals of "hustle" and "grind" culture to instead center rest as the ultimate form of self-care and collective healing, particularly for the Black community.

An array of restful events occurred during the installation's run, such as restorative yoga classes, a rest workshop with author Octavia F. Raheem, an immersive sound workshop with the Sound Museum Collective, a live performance by modular synth artist Chaka Benson, and free acupuncture sessions.
